Discount Auto Insurance is Not a Myth!
Discount auto insurance is not a myth. It is possible to lower the cost of your premiums if you a) make wise choices and b) fall into an insurance category that entitles you to discounted rates. So what do you need to do? Here are some ways you can qualify for a discount on your auto insurance premiums.
You could pay less on your insurance bill if you are a safe driver. Most insurance companies will offer discounts for drivers who have had no accidents or tickets in the last three to five years. You may also qualify for discount auto insurance if you have a renter's or homeowner's insurance policy with the same insurer. These are called 'multi-line discounts'.
The type of job you do may also qualify you for discount auto insurance. Some insurers offer lower premiums for engineers or teachers. If you have several vehicles or your cars are fitted with airbags you may also qualify for lower insurance rates.
Some auto insurers will offer discount auto insurance based on your age, whether you have access to the Internet and a college degree. For example, 21st Century Group has found that drivers with degrees in engineering offer a lowered risk than drivers in other professions. A bachelor's degree in the engineering or science-related fields for example biochemistry, mathematics or mechanical engineering may enable you to take advantage of lowered rates from 21st Century.
Horace Mann Insurance will give discount auto insurance to teachers who belong to state education associations or the National Education Association (NEA). These discounts are 8% or more and based on the fact that teaching is a stable job, and that most teachers know they are always being watched by the community. The program has been running for about fifteen years. Check with your insurer about similar discounts. Some companies also offer discounts for college or university professors.
If you are in the military you may also qualify for discount auto insurance. Geico insurance company offers discounts of between 2% to 15% to policyholders who are active in or retired from the military. The discount is offered in all states except Georgia, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, New Mexico, Tennessee and Texas.
If you sign with Geico you will be able to cancel all cover except comprehensive cover if you have to leave the country. If you are sent to a country where hostile-fire pay is granted by the government you can get an additional 25% discount off your comprehensive cover if your car is in storage. So take advantage of your military service and make use of these and other discount auto insurance offers.
If you are at retirement age you may also qualify for discount auto insurance. For example, The Hartford's AARP Insurance Program will offer you discounts of up to 45%! If you insure several vehicles you may be able to save 20% to 25% if you take out a single policy.
You will also qualify for a 10% discount if you have a homeowner's and automobile policy with them. If you hold your policy for five years or more and are free from driving violations you can knock an additional 5% off your premiums! Discount auto insurance is easier to obtain than you think!
